Web Design and Shopping Carts

Do you need help with Web Design or a Shopping Cart?

I am a specialized web developer with an innovative focus -some of the websites I develop are related to achieving a specific goal using a creative approach, or different concept to the norm. I build 'standard' websites for clients (or freinds) as well, including blogs, if I am asked. I do not actively seek standard web design work unless it is something specifically related to a key project.

Some of the websites or blogs I have built include:

Resume/CV websites to assist with job search for career coaching clients. Why just rely on a paper or digital document CV or resume?....which can be so boring and 20th Century! When clients want help with getting a better job sometimes part of my recommended strategy can be to build a website, which is so much better than a "stuffy" resume. Here is an example: www.OzChef.net - I have also designed a business card for him to complete the effect. This approach has given him a significant edge over rivals, as well as made everything much more efficient for all. It has attracted considerable attention - after all, it is different to the way most people go about things.
Dating personal profile websites all about you. Finding the right partner is critical - why just rely on the limited profile creation abilities of dating membership sites? Add some zest and personality with your very own website.
Job ads/Positions Vacant - example created for a client: http://www.medical-practice-manager.info (Site now removed).
Personal development blogs for journaling purposes.

Information below is intended to give you a guide as to some of the work I have done, and some of the psychology behind it. It will also help you to understand why I recommend some of the software and services you will see mentioned on this website.

I have been building websites since the late 1990's - besides being a swot (academic vegetable) I have a strong creative side. There is just one problem...my drawing abilities are stuck at about age 6. Website Development has therefore been a key creative outlet and over the years I have produced a variety of websites - some my own, others for clients.

When developing websites it is very important to ensure that they look good, and professional. Websites must also work well, be easy for the user to navigate and inviting to use - a key principle of effective web design is usability. Having a beautiful site that does not work well, or get found in the search engines, is a waste of time.

Before building your website I will of course be seeking more feedback about what you are looking for specifically. I am very customer focussed.

When building business websites for people, at times I analyze related websites around the world for additional input. That said, my approach does not simply depend on looking at competitors, which is a key driver in how many people develop their websites and their business in general - in my view it is very important to think beyond that so that one is much more innovative and leading edge. In life it is best to be an innovator, or otherwise a very fast follower.

Because so many people are involved in copycat procedures, we have a business landscape, and website landscape, with many unnecessary commonalities. People should instead be much more focussed on the customer, and their experience/needs. A key aspect of effective marketing is of course differentiation and my aim is to build websites which produce key advantages over those of the competition. Because many of my non website skill sets are people related, I have a distinct advantage in this area.

I build websites with scalability so that new functionality can easily be added down the track if and when a client feels that it is appropriate. It is so important to get the foundation right which is one reason I have been extremely careful about my website building software selection criteria.

I do not have a huge repertoire of  skills with absolutely every website building software application out there, however I do a proficient job within my skill sets and often find a way to achieve objectives that avoids unnecessary hassle, expense and waste of resources. As it happens, a lot of "fancy stuff" can tend to create more problems than solutions and lead to cost blow outs.

It is easy to waste a lot of money and time on web sites - I know someone running a large Private Investigation agency who spent $10,000 on his web site some years ago and received very poor value. My strength lies in being able to determine how best to help a client, ideally with a result that goes further than most - something a bit special.

Here are just some of the websites I have created:

www.AnoushkaNewman.com Note: this site's content, which was primarily photographic in nature, has been transferred to:

            www.AnoushkaNewmanMedia.com

You can read a blog post I wrote about the technology behind AnoushkaNewmanMedia.com here:

Photo sharing - the most buttery smooth experience.

Gold Coast Vet Surgery In all my years of being owned by animals this vet has been the best by far. Highly competent, very caring and ethical. I enjoyed helping someone who cares about animals so much. See what Dr Kevin Cruickshank wrote about his website in the testimonial box below:

This site was personally created by Dr Alex Webley from PersonalDevelopmentMagic.com Alex is a pleasure to work with and his service is extremely customer focussed. Nothing is ever too much trouble and requests are always dealt with extremely promptly and efficiently. Alex's burning desire to "get it right" always shines through and he is wealth of knowledge not only on website design and construction, but internet marketing in general. He's an SEO whiz. Particularly notable is the all the design planning Alex put in to future proof the site - just watch as we grow and evolve in the future - Alex has the vision to make it all possible. You certainly do not get a "one-size-fits-all" approach from Alex, everything is customised towards the desired outcome - he really listens to your needs. And whilst he'll make suggestions, and offer alternatives where he feels appropriate, it has been a welcome change to work with someone who truly lets the customer have the final say! I am extremely proud of our website and I hope Alex is too! If you're looking for somebody who can think outside the square and solve your website dilemmas then contact Alex at PersonalDevelopmentMagic.com Tell him I sent you!

Dr Cruickshank required handover of his website on completion, with the ability to easily continue updates himself. Self updating of websites is a key aspect , especially these days, and avoids the need to continue paying a web designer for every update.

Healing Construction & Maintenance Pty Ltd - a very high quality shop fitting and renovations company here on the Gold Coast. Check out some of the pictures on the site for stunning examples of their work.

Here is a site with some very interesting and unusual design elements - it has an artistic slant: Madam Zebra  - Some of the images used have been specially created using unusual effects. You will also see a simple (& humorous) sound add-on on this page: http://www.MadamZebra.com/Privacy.html Note: as the site is a private, non commercial one, the Privacy Policy is "tongue in cheek".

Vince Diecast Cars - This is a shopping cart site. My client also wanted a blog where clients can find the latest information on their diecast model cars. Here is an article I wrote:

Diecast cars, shopping carts, inspiration and great customer service.

Vision Centre Gold Coast - this site, which as of March 2010, is not yet fully completed, has been created for one of the Gold Coast's premier eye care facilities, which includes a day surgery. Dr Roger Welch, the founder of Vision Centre Gold Coast is someone I have known both personally and professionally for some years. Dr Roger Welch, whom I know very well, is a remarkable person and is incredibly dedicated to the welfare of his patients and the provision of top quality eye care. Eye care is his consuming passion.

Surveillance & Investigation Specialists - this site is a rebuild. I took over after another web developer and totally rebuilt the site using XSitePro. Note the special enquiry form built into the side bar, which appears on every page. XSite Pro made it easy and quick to include this functionality.

I have a .Mobi website. The .mobi extension is for sites which can be viewed easily on mobile phones (cell phones): www.BlackShaman.mobi Please bear in mind that whilst this site is viewable in a normal browser, it is designed to be seen in a phone screen for best look and effect.

My website is complemented by a blog which I developed:

            www.BlackShaman.net

I have also set up a blog for my wife here:

            www.MadamZebra.Me

My wife, who is a former graphic design teacher, assists me with some projects. Her repertoire includes some fantastic website headers.

My photo site is: www.AlexWebleyMedia.com If you are serious about photo hosting and sharing, or even selling your photos then check out the service I use; SmugMug.

I have developed many other web sites since the 1990's, and some of these no longer exist for a variety of reasons. I also create sites for undercover, investigative purposes - including for "legends" in spy speak; and other specialist projects/niches. The links are secret - sorry!

Copywriting: I write my own website copy, and at times that of clients. Check out my writing style on my blog. A key influence for me is introducing 'humanness' to copy - feeling, passion and soul. A sense that the reader is not interacting with a 'stuffed shirt'.
